River Nith Clean-up

A group of volunteers from the Burgh Anglers and Dumfries Civic Pride descended on the River Nith on Saturday (February 21)to have a clean-up. They were also joined by staff from the council. Video sent in by David Slater.

Conservative Leader David Cameron visited Dumfries on Thursday (December 17) on a whistlestop tour. After speaking exclusively to the Standard he met with Council Chief Executive Gavin Stevenson to discuss the town's recent flooding.

Car crashes during bad weather

Police have said that 14 car crashes were reported to them between Thursday 19 and Sunday 22 November on the regions roads. In this video you can see one of the vehicles that crashed during the bad weather. The car crashed at around 6am last Friday (20 November) three miles south of Holywood on the A76. The driver was uninjured.

Region hit by worst flooding in years

Dumfries and Galloway has been hit by some of the worst flooding in years. There was traffic chaos across the region on Thursday night (November 19th) with police being called out to a large number of accidents. Fire and Rescue services were also called out to rescue people from their homes who had been trapped by flood waters. We spoke to Dumfries Constabulary and the fire and rescue service to find out the latest.

Flooding hits Dumfries

Severe flooding has hit many parts of the region today (Thursday). Police have asked motorists to only drive if necessary. Many roads have been closed as a result of the flooding across Dumfries and Galloway including the Dumfries Whitesands. You can see a video of the flooding here. Trainers cause wheel misery

Dumfries resident Rob Gray sent us this video after the council refused to empty his wheelie bin this week because the lid was not fully down. The 39-year-old said the lid was raised up only a small fraction because of a pair of old trainers he had thrown away. The lid being open around half an inch meant it did not meet the council's new household waste collection rules which came into force last April.

Lorry recovered after Amisfield crash

A passerby kindly sent in this video of a lorry being recovered after it left the road in the early hours of Sunday morning on 6 September. The Morrisons lorry left the road at around 3am on the A701 at Amisfield. The lorry driver was cut free from the lorry and taken to Dumfries Royal Infirmary for treatment.
