Lochmaben Children’s Gala hailed a success
LOCHMABEN partied in the sunshine on Saturday for its annual children’s gala.
After a fun-filled week of events, hundreds gathered on the High Street to watch a parade of fancy dress winners, decorated vehicles, vintage tractors and the Royal Retinue of Lochmaben Gala Queen, 12-year-old Keri Trainor; her attendant 11-year-old Kristen Clark; two gala princesses five-year-old Lauren Pattullo and seven-year-old Codie Palmer; and their escorts six-year-old Liam Graham and seven-year-old Finlay Pattullo.
It was a busy day for the Royal Burgh of Lochmaben Pipe Band Association who took part in the parade before heading off for the British pipe Band Championships in Annan, and returned for the Beat the Retreat in the evening.
Lockerbie Pipe Band also took part in the procession which was followed by an afternoon of sports and entertainment.
The honour of being best in parade went to the float by Jaybees Nursery in which 20 children, aged from one to nine years old dressed as bumblebees, flowers or fairyland creatures.
Nursery owner Jackie Bell said: “It is the first year that the nursery has been opened and, obviously, the first year we have entered the parade.
“The children have really enjoyed it and we are grateful to all the staff and parents for their support.”
Annandale Sailing Club children and adults members became Pirates of Annandale for the day winning the children’s section.
Thirteen youngsters from P2, P4 and P7 at Lochmaben Primary School looked forward to the end of the school year with their Schoolz Out: Gala Graduation entry, while Caroline Little spent 17-and-a-half hours creating paper flowers to decorate her car, Flower Power.
Another car entry was a family affair in a classic Riley RM Special 1952 owned by enthusiast Graeme Davidson.
He drove the Clockwork Car entry alongside his mum, Kathy, dad, Colin, and sister, Lorraine.
Jacob Bell, aged 10, Callan Nairn (8), Alex Nairn (11), Hannah Caven (10) and Katie Redding (8), had their own version of Strictly Come Dancing, while the Lochmaben 2nd Guides, Rainbows and Brownies celebrated the centenary of guiding this year, and the Lockerbie and District Branch of Enable went Floating Off To Wimbledon.
