Sports dinner raises over £11K for cancer charity

THORNHILL and District Rotary Club members were delighted to hand over a cheque for £11,400 to a cancer charity recently.

Maggie’s Centre, a concept inspired by local woman Maggie Keswick who finally succumbed to the disease in 1993, is a place to turn to for help with any of the problems, small or large, associated with cancer.

The money was raised at a sporting dinner organised by the rotary club held at Drumlanrig Castle.

Thornhill President Trevor Dykes said: “The work of Maggie’s Centre has always been a cause close to the hearts of many of us in Thornhill Rotary.

“Raising this magnificent sum is a great tribute to the efforts of our members and their friends.

“I would like to personally thank everyone involved in organising the event.”
