Quilters show great heart

A DUMFRIES charity was delighted to receive the proceeds of a raffle organised by the Solway Quilters group.

Volunteers at the Chest, Heart and Stroke shop in Friars Vennel were handed a cheque for £1,677, which will be used to provide support services to people who have a had a stroke and their families.

The charity was formed a century ago to help in the fight against tuberculosis. That fight was won, but today the battle goes on against ailments which continue to blight the wellbeing of the nation including coronary heart disease, strokes and chest illnesses of various kinds.

Fran Campbell, the Friars Vennel shop manager said: “Solway Quilters made a hand-made quilt and raffled it during an exhibition at Gracefield Arts Centre. We are delighted to have been their chosen charity to receive the proceeds this year and we are extremely grateful.”
