Blast from the past

THIS week’s blast from the past features two local bands who hit the music circuits in the early 70s.

Cody was a local band who played in Dumfries and Galloway and Cumbria from February 1976 until late 1977.

Band members were Laurie Lubke and George Black on guitars and vocals, Harry Rush on bass and vocals and Neil Cocane on drums and vocals.

They played in clubs, bars and weddings and were very popular among the locals playing songs that could be likened to that of the Eagles.

The Escorts were a popular band who played in several pubs, clubs, dancehalls and weddings around Dumfries and Galloway.

They were together from November 1971 until October 1974. They were known for their rock n roll and chart songs.

The band was made up of four members, Ted Beckley and George Black on guitar and vocals, Raymond Brown on bass and Mick McCaig on drums.
