Dumfries primestock sale

THE CUMBERLAND and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart held its pre-Christmas sale of primestock in Dumfries on Monday.

A small selective show of prime cattle was forward. Trade was good to level at 174.3p

Limousin X heifers from D&R Cornthwaite, Balgrayhill, to 193.5p, 180.5p purchased by R Johnstone & Sons Butchers, Annan, and Border Meats Lockerbie. Others to 182.5p Upper Tinwald, Dumfries, to J Kerr & Sons Butchers Gretna.

Top gross heifer £1,035.23 Balgrayhill.

836 prime lambs forward: trade for all classes was much dearer to average 144.7p

Top price per kg was 161p for 46kg beltex crosses they realised the day’s top price of £74 per head from W Gribbon & Co, Waterside, Cargen Bridge.
