THREE very special Georgetown Community Centre volunteers have been given a real vote of thanks for their hard work serving up food.
Gordon Doig, a past president of the Georgetown Community Centre, presented the Jean McMurdo Shield for community service to “The Café Girls”, Barbara Richardson, Trisha Hague, and Marjory Thom.
The three women volunteer in the community centre canteen.
He explained that it had been his vision to see the newly refurbished café used by the community and was delighted that so many people make use of it and enjoy it.
The three volunteers enabled the café to provide a warm and comfortable meeting place on Tuesday mornings for residents and friends to chat over the best value refreshments in Dumfries.
He also called for others to get involved too, stating that it was a great way to meet new people, and that if anybody else would like to volunteer, they should come along, and the canteen may be able to open another day.
