ADELE Wilson is cooking up a storm as she graduates from Dumfries and Galloway College as the first student to achieve a Modern Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery.

The 20-year-old from Port William who has just completed her Level 2 told of how pleased she was to have gained her qualifications.

She said: “I’m very pleased. It was a lot of hard work. I’m very grateful I have finished it now.”

Adele was awarded £100 as the first student to complete her Modern Apprenticeship through the College’s Newton Stewart Centre in Dumfries.

During her four year course Adele picked up experience cooking at the Clansman restaurant in Port William while she was not studying.

Adele still works at the restaurant where she is now second chef.

She said: “It’s helped me lots being in the job as well. It has given me a lot of experience.

I’ll hopefully stay there as long as possible.”

Adele is now looking forward to her graduation from Dumfries and Galloway College at the end of November. She said: “I get my graduation on the 27th of November. I am looking forward to that and I’m very pleased.”

Gerda Pickin, Training Coordinator at Dumfries and Galloway College congratulated Adele on her success by saying: “Adele has worked extremely hard during her apprenticeship and has a very bright future ahead of her in the hospitality industry.

“We are delighted to be able to offer Modern Apprenticeships at our Newton Stewart Centre and hope it encourages more people to develop their skills in a trade.”
