Star assemble squad

DALBEATTIE Star’s squad for next season is beginning to take shape.

The majority of last year’s South of Scotland League winning side have agreed to stay on for another year and new player/manager John MacBeth is now taking steps to add a few new faces.

He said: “Most of the boys have signed up, I’m just waiting for the last couple. We might lose one or two, there’s one struggling with work commitments, but apart from that everyone else has signed up.

“I’m speaking to a couple of boys but there’s only so many players out there that can improve our squad. I’ve got a couple of young boys in to have a look at and see how they’re doing.”

Star play their first friendly of the summer on Monday night when Annan Athletic make the trip to Islecroft, with kick-off at 7.30pm.

The club’s awards night on Saturday saw Scott Milligan named player of the year and also take the award for top goalscorer.

Ritchie Maxwell was named committee player of the year and Curtiss Wilson landed the young player of the year award.
