Barbados victory for Kirsty

KIRSTY RIDDICK has completed a Caribbean double – with a win on the SOL Rally Barbados.

The Haugh of Urr co-driver was reading notes for Cumbria’s Paul Bird in the Fuchs Titan, Rapid Solicitors and Kick Energy-backed Frank Bird Poultry Ford Focus WRC08 as they both scored their first success on the rally.

It followed on from their victory in the King of The Hill event the previous week – the first international team ever to win that particular stage.

The pair’s rally win wasn’t without drama, a spin on the third stage costing them 20 seconds before they dropped to sixth in their Dom Buckley Motorsport-prepared car with a double puncture on the sixth stage.

However, they fought back and fastest times on Saturday’s final three stages lifted them to second.

The final day provided 10 stages and the pair were quickly in the lead, but a fierce battle followed and they were just 12 seconds ahead of the second-placed duo of Paul Bourne and Megan Bryant by the end.
