Notorious A75 road claims two lives on same day

A GATEHOUSE man lost his life on the A75 last week in a single-vehicle crash.

Eighty-two-year-old John Michael Scott, of Ann Street, died at around 6pm last Wednesday.

The accident happened when his red Volkswagen Golf estate crashed on the Gretna to Stranraer road near Twynholm.

He died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

His devastated family have asked for privacy at this time.

It was one of two fatal crashes that happened on the road that day.

A 22-year-old man was killed in a crash which happened about three miles west of Newton Stewart just before midnight.

The crash happened when the black Vauxhall Vectra car he was travelling in, which had a distinctive silver coloured bonnet, left the road.

He was named by police as John Quinnin, of Cramlington in Northumberland.

Another man who was in the car at the time was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he was treated for bruising and shock.

The road was closed for several hours.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed either of the accidents, or who was in the area around the time they occurred.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 600 5701.

Information can also be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
