Solway Orienteer

SOLWAY Orienteers much-postponed Mabie Knollbagging event was eventually held on Sunday.

The runners were given an hour to find as many knolls in the area designated by planner Dave Marshall.

The turnout of club members was good although some regulars were missing.

The eventual winner was teenager Alastair Murgatroyd who bagged the highest number of knolls, bucking the recent trend of veteran runners using guile over speed to triumph.

Full results are not yet available.

Hot on the heels of that competition, the January competition in the Saturday Series will be held at Barrhill, Dalbeattie this Saturday.

Parking will be in the car park at the bottom of Barrhill Road with a short walk up to the forest.

The event will follow the usual format with courses running from White to Green, maps costing £1.50 and starts available from 10am till noon.

Runners of all abilities and ages are welcome and assistance is always at hand for newcomers.

More information is on the club website www.thai.od.dsl.pipex.com.
