Girls U15 football cup final

DUMFRIES Girls FC U15 team travelled to the indoor facility at Toryglen in Glasgow to make the first-ever cup final appearance for the club.

They were to take on league leaders Celtic in what was a great occasion for everyone associated with the club.

The 4G astroturf under cover at Toryglen was the perfect pitch on which to play good football. The pitch is even bigger than Old Trafford and it was always going to be a test of endurance as well as skill.

Celtic were strong, with numerous Scottish players in the side, they took the game to Dumfries at a tremendous pace. The first half was fast and furious but there was no scoring and at half time it remained 0-0 with all to play for.

There were tremendous performances from back four Erin Corbett, Rosy Ryan, Haylie Crosbie and Eleanor Hope who soaked up an enormous amount of pressure. Goalie Kirsty Strachan had plenty to do with some excellent saves from great shots by the Celtic forwards.

Sarah Irving must deserve bravest player on the pitch award for taking numerous knocks from her Celtic opponent and still getting up ready for more.

As the second half progressed, DGFC had a spell of great pressure to really put Celtic on the back foot but they came back and scored from a looping corner close to the hour mark.

This seemed to hit Dumfries hard and as the game progressed Celtic again dominated and their superior fitness would tell, eventually winning 5-0.

Dumfries gave everything they had and behaved superbly throughout. The club are very proud of them.
