Sailing: Flora sets sail for Italy

FLORA STEWART, a member of the Solway Yacht Club Kippford, has set sail for the 420 Ladies World Championships in Lake Garda, Italy.

The 17-year-old’s will be one of seven boats representing Great Britain at this prestige event.

Both Flora and Anna Burnett her helm, from Helensburgh, are part of the Team GBR – World Class Sailing Team.

Selection for this event was through a series of tough events during the winter months.

Flora a pupil at Fettes College, Edinburgh said: “It was hard to balance school and training. However everything was made much easier with support from family and sportscotland.”

Shortly before leaving for Italy, Flora said: “I am look forward to the challenge of the world championships.

“Hopefully all the training will pay off and we will come home with the results we deserve!”
