Twiglees trauma for David Bogie

DUMFRIES race ace David Bogie admits he was gutted to crash out of his home rally at the weekend.

But the 21-year-old says it just makes things even more interesting at the Scottish Rally Championship moves into its final stages.

It all went horribly wrong for Bogie in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 as the Dumfries and Galloway-based Scottish Rally reached its fourth stage at Twiglees in Eskdalemuir.

Bogie told the Standard: “It was disappointing to go off. At the first stage we had a few problems with the car and that cost us a fair bit of time.

“We were joint fastest in stage 2, stage 3 was an ok time and in stage 4 were going good until we got to this corner.

“The car went wide and hit a concrete block which pulled it off.

“It was a block which had been used to hold up poles or something which has been there from years ago.

“It’s a shame, because we had been making good time on that stage and no one seemed to know it was a bad corner – they do now!”

Bogie and co-driver Kevin Rae were unhurt in the crash which happened right in front of David’s mother.

He joked: “She was okay with it once she realised I was okay!”

In the end, the rally was won by Kirtlebridge drive Mike Faulkner who finished 13 seconds ahead in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.

Before the race, it had been Bogie who was widely tipped to triumph at what is his home race.

But despite the disappointment, the talented driver insists the championship crown is still wide open.

“You are allowed to drop two scores so it just means that these last three rounds are critical.” he said.

“I just can’t make any more mistakes, it is not over by any means.

“There is pressure on the drivers to perform but it makes it more exciting for the fans.”

Bogie’s team are now repairing his car ahead of the Isle of Man Rally next weekend.

After that, it’s back onto the Scottish Championships for the Gleaner Rally at Elgin.
