DALTON won through to the final of the Sulwath Shield by default as their opponents, Ashleigh were unable to raise a team for the semi- final on July 25.
Meanwhile in the John Henderson mid-week league they romped to a comprehensive 116-run victory over a game Burgh Boys side.
Batting first in ideal conditions, Dalton were given a sound start by Christian Richmond and Alasdair Houston who put on 24 for the opening wicket.
Houston, playing his first game of the season, retired after a classy innings of 28 runs.
Rhidian Jones and Chris McCutcheon added 23 for the fourth wicket before McCutcheon was well caught in the deep for 16.
This brought Charlie Steel to the wicket who immediately went on the offensive, scoring 28 in a 50-run partnership with Jones who rode his luck on his way to a streaky 27. Further impetus in the later overs was provided by Jamie Buchanan- Jardine (13) and Yash (20) as Dalton amassed a season's best total of 159 for nine.
Burgh boys lost two wickets in the first two overs both to excellent catches by Charlie Steel and Chris McCutcheon.
Despite not taking any further wickets the Dalton opening bowlers of Jamie Buchanan Jardine and Shreyans gave very little away registering figures of one for two and one for seven respectively in their four-over spells.
The first change bowlers of Yash and McCutcheon were slightly more expensive but took three wickets for 12 apiece as the Burgh Boys’ innings folded.
Tight bowling by Charlie Steel and Rafe Houston later on further frustrated the batting side who ended on 43 for eight off the full 20 overs.
This was another excellent performance by Dalton who were missing five first choice players through injury or unavailability. These players should be available for the remaining league games and the important cup final on August 19.
