Kirkwood Cricket Club

A LONG-standing cricket match took place recently, with a history that goes back to 1874 before even the Ashes started!

The midweek team of the Kirkwood Cricket Club (called Dalton for midweek games) played Lockerbie Cricket Club at Kirkwood.

Dalton batted first and were in trouble early on as Marcus Richardson, Christian Richmond, and Rhidian Jones all fell early to good bowling by Stevie Crawford and Andy Veitch.

Then, through Richard Boulter (15) and Davie Davidson (25*), they built a good partnership aided/followed by Chris McCutcheon (25*), Yash Dhiman (16) and Freddy Graham-Campbell (20) to make a solid total of 118 in the 20 overs.

In reply for Lockerbie it was only Ross Crawford (15) who troubled the bowlers as wickets tumbled fast.

Yash Dhiman would have had a hat-trick had Anthony Steel held a simple catch and Richard Boulter did achieve a hat-trick to finish the match with Lockerbie all out for 35 - 83 runs behind. Revenge from that game 138 years ago which Lockerbie won!

Our picture above shows: ack row (left to right, standing): Andy Veitch, Michael Carpenter, Duncan Gracie, Stevie Crawford, (all Lockerbie players) then Rhidian Jones, (infront of) Jamie Frankland, Freddy Graham-Campbell, Richard Boulter, Davie Davidson, Marcus Richardson, Chris McCutcheon, Dave Richardson, Christian Richmond, Anthony Steel and Yash Dhiman (the Dalton team).
