Aug 26 2011 Dumfries Standard Friday
APD Dumfries won their play-off championship match on Saturday at third placed Poloc by six wickets to maintain their challenge for the league title.
The victory kept Dumfries in second place in the championship with two matches to play.
This Saturday they play fourth placed Renfrew away and on Sunday they play West Lothian at Nunholm at ‘high noon’ in a potential title and promotion decider.
On Saturday, after being asked to bat, Poloc were reduced to 29 for 4 after 10 overs with Chad Breetzke taking all four wickets opening the bowling attack with Allan Maskrey.
The first came in the first over with a deflected catch to first slip. The same pattern followed with the next three which were all caught at slip by Scott Beveridge including the Poloc professional C Huyser out to an excellent diving effort for a second ball duck.
That brought Chaudhry and Walton together and together they set about successfully rebuilding the innings and they achieved a century partnership in the 36th over. At that point Alan Davidson had been brought in to the attack and it was he that finally broke the pair when he had Chaudhry caught for 59.
He struck again with the score past 150 when Coyle was caught by Dawson. That was followed by an lbw victim and a run-out courtesy of Beveridge.
Breetzke came back to take a caught and bowled to claim a five-for 31 and Davidson took his fourth wicket when Walton was last out, bowled for 62, in the final over for a Poloc tally of 188.
Dumfries lost Tom McBride lbw in the 10th over in his return match from injury but Dawson and Beveridge took the score past 50 only for Beveridge to fall to Blackburn. When Dawson went to the same bowler for 29 soon afterwards the innings was poised at 65 for three after 22 overs.
However, Breetzke set about following his bowling performance and in partnership with his skipper Stuart Corbett-Byers produced the match winning partnership.
They passed the hundred in the 30th over and with plenty of singles interspersed with boundaries reached the 150 mark with 10 overs to go.
It looked like the pairing would pass the winning line as they accelerated the scoring but Byers was caught in the final throes of the innings for 54 attempting to finish the game with a six.
Instead, and appropriately, it was left to Molplant Man of the Match Breetzke to hit the next ball for six to win the match and cap a quality innings of 57 not out.
