Generous Nunholm

IN NUNHOLM’S final match of the season the Dumfries Sunday XI proved to be over-hospitable hosts to a Glasgow Accies side who had travelled to Dumfries to take advantage of the September sun.

Not only did they give the Anniesland team first use of the wicket they served up some inviting bowling and dished out 40 extras in a total of 208 for six. Wallace was the pick of the bowlers achieving the only maiden of the innings. In reply, thanks to some buffet bowling, and a bid for all-rounder status by Stuart Alexander, the Nunholm crew managed to get to 174 for seven.

Looking for positives from the match there was the intriguing comparison between the Strachans – with son Fraser definitely taking the style points with both bat and ball. There was a wicket-keeping debut by young Todd Rafferty – who now understands what Stuart Byers goes through every week and why the “Budgie” style of keeping has its merits; and there was also a senior debut for Bradley Fouche – another youngster from the ranks of the Dumfries junior section.
