Winning streak continuesfor Dumfries

DUMFRIES' winning streak in the Strathclyde Sunday League continued this week at home to Kelburne.

The home side were hoping for a better all round performance, especially with the bat, than last week and this was delivered.

Dumfries were put into bat and Thomas McBride and Collin Wallace opened.

McBride scored a quickfire 27 from 31 balls before being caught by Humphries, meanwhile Wallace cover drove his first ball for four before being caught and bowled by Miller as he claimed his first of two wickets.

This paved the way for Marcus Richardson and Chris Bellwood to come in to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Richardson fell for just 22 but Bellwood reached his 50, thanks to some magnificent shots before being caught by Ogilvie off the bowling of C Watson, for an impressive 66.

Equally as impressive was Josh Geary’s 51 from just 33 balls.

He was merciless as he smashed 10 fours on his way to his half century before being bowled by C Watson who ended the day with figures of 3-39.

However it seemed that Dumfries were heading for trouble again with the bat as they lost four wickets in as many overs but Peter Johnstone and Dave Strachan (20) steadied the ship with Johnstone making a valuable 27 not out.

Johnstone and Temlett saw out the overs as Dumfries reached a score of 251 from the 40 overs.

Just like last week, Dumfries got off to a flyer with the opening bowler, Stephen Temlett, again picking up a wicket in his first over as he removed Miller with the fifth ball of the Kelburne innings.

A further dismissal gave him figures of 2 for 23 from 5 overs.

Campbell reached 30 before being caught behind by Adam Elliot who was on fine form with two catches and a stumping.

With Kelburne at 117-8 after 25 overs, the points looked to be going easily to Dumfries but Kelburne showed stiff resistance in the form of W Allan.

He demoralised the already quiet and weary Dumfries team (that wedding reception!), who had no reply to his big hitting and he was excellent on his way to a great 103 taking Kelburne to 202-8 from 39 overs before being finally caught by Geary off the bowling of Tommy McBride.

The innings lasted just three more balls before the game ended with Kelburne all out for 202.

Dumfries managed to improve on their win from last week against Ayr and will look to improve further when they travel away to Weirs this Sunday.
