APD Dumfries notched up a convincing win after Prestwick were reduced to 107 all out in their National League Division 2 encounter at Nunholm on Saturday.
Chief destroyer was Jim Patterson who in his new role as opening bowler took three wickets while again keeping runs at a premium.
Dumfries chose to bowl and couldn’t have had a better start with Stuart Alexander hitting the stumps with the first ball of the match and thanks to the nagging inswing of Patterson another wicket fell before the score had reached double figures.
Opener Gibson with the top score of 26 was instrumental in one of the rare partnerships but Alan Davidson broke through with a caught and bowled and four wickets fell for just nine runs as the heart was ripped out of the Prestwick innings at 56 for six.
McGregor and Stafford then managed the highest partnership but Jerry Goodin removed the latter to end up with two wickets and Chris Bellwood also took two to finish the innings off as Prestwick struggled to 107 all out after 37 overs.
Dumfries took just under 18 overs to seal the win. Opener Drew Dawson got 42 and left everyone open mouthed with one boundary played one handed behind his legs (a single to midwicket became four overthrows as Prestwick’s day got even worse).
Stuart Corbett-Byers showed that the stand-in captaincy agreed with him as he extended his runs in-office to nearly 250 in three games with 41 not out as the bowlers unwisely fed his pull shot.
The win means that the Dumfries side stays in second spot but Falkland remain unbeaten in top spot.
This Saturday the team is away at third placed RH Corstorphine for whom a win leapfrogs them into second place.
