LAST Saturday saw JMS Nunholm travel to play an in-form Glasgow University Staff side.
With virtually an entire team absent from the club due to various reasons plus late call-offs it meant the Dumfries side travelled more in hope than expectation and after losing the toss, the visiting side were invited to bat on a wet wicket.
After losing Cox early, Johnston and Williams managed to get the score to 50 before Johnston was bowled for 19.
Cross then started where he had left off from the previous week, punishing any width. Several contributions from the other end from Williams (16), Kyle (21) and Elliot (11) helped support Cross as the visiting side eyed up a healthy total, for the conditions, of 175.
After Cross was out for a well constructed 53 trying to force the pace near the end, Wallace hit some lusty blows as Nunholm left the field at the halfway stage with 173 for five wickets.
With a young side it was going to be a tough ask to defend 173 but after an excellent opening spell of bowling from Temlett the visiting side felt they had a chance of gaining some precious points. However, Kharwar had different ideas and attacked from the start, exploiting the gaps in the field and racing to 50 in quick-fire fashion.
With over 100 on the board and only two wickets down, Alexander Jnr came into the attack and despite some early nerves, found his line and length and managed to take his first senior league wicket, bowling Kharwar for 85.
He was not satisfied with only one scalp though and went on to claim three wickets which enabled Nunholm to get six points from the game before the Academics crossed the finishing line.
