Players selected for Scotland

TWO FIRST XI players from Dumfries Cricket Club have been picked for the Scotland youth squads.

Tommy McBride has received a call-up to the Scotland under 17s and Chris Bellwood is in the Scotland under 19 set up.

Chris has previously represented Scotland at other age groups. However this is the first national recognition for Tommy whose first introduction to the sport was through the local council’s cricket taster sessions.

Both are attending winter training sessions in Edinburgh in preparation for the 2009 season.

There they are under the watchful eye of recent Scotland captain Craig Wright who is charged with overseeing the development of the young players in Scotland’s national squads.

The Scotland U17s play in the ECB U17 Championships against sides from the English counties and the U19s play academy sides from the likes of new champion side Durham, Yorkshire and Warwickshire and in 2009 will be seeking to qualify for the next U19 World Cup in Kenya.
