Cricket: Dumfries back for 20/20 finals

ON SUNDAY it is the return of 20/20 cricket and the return of APD Dumfries to Glasgow for another attempt to play the Murgitroyd 20/20 Scottish Cup finals.

Dumfries play Carlton at 1pm at Shawholm in the second semi-final.

Clydesdale and Dunfermline have a morning start to their day in the first.

Dumfries anticipate fielding the same side as for previous finals day.

Keeper Stuart Corbett-Byers has recovered from a dislocated thumb which is good news for Dumfries since his rapid scoring can change the course of a game.

Meanwhile yet more of this summer's rain scuppered the Dumfries CC fixtures last weekend as all games were cancelled.

The APD Dumfries National League Division 2 fixture in Fife against Falkland was a victim as was the important 2nd XI home game against second bottom Shawholm in Western Union Division 2.

However one of the very few results in the National League did a favour to JMS Nunholm where a Weirs win means that no Western Union side can go down from the SNCL which in turn ensures that two rather than three relegation places will apply at the end of the season.

The Sunday XI didn't escape either with their home game against Prestwick off and unfortunately the under 10s Kwik Cricket festival in the morning suffered as well.

If the weather gods are kinder this weekend, on Saturday APD Dumfries play bottom side Edinburgh who are facing the prospect of a play-off to remain in the National Leagues.

On Sunday JMS Nunholm, in 7th place in WDCU Division 2, play the side one place above them, Victoria, when the league equation will be that bit clearer after the rest of the Division 2 fixtures are played on Saturday and in particular the game involving Shawholm.
