Senior league reaches finale

THE SEVENTH and final round of the DBA senior league was held on Wednesday, June 24 with the following results:

North section: Kirkconnel v Dumfries (no result); Glencairn 2 Marchmount 5; Sanquhar 7 Maxwelltown 0; Annan 3.5 Thornhill 3.5.

League table to date: Annan 39.5 (+60), Sanquhar 33 (+29), Marchmount 25 (-1), Dumfries 24 (+20), Glencairn 22(-23), Kirkconnel 16 (-11), Maxwelltown 12 (-19): Thornhill 10.5 (-37).

Central section: Maxwelltown 2 Annan 5; Marchmount 7 Crichton 0; Lochmaben 2 Lockerbie 5; Dumfries 7 Gretna 0.

League table to date: Lockerbie 34 (+63), Annan 32.5 (+35), Dumfries 29 (+16), Lochmaben 27 (-10), Maxwelltown 25 (+26), Marchmount 24.5 (+22), Crichton 11.5 (-68) Gretna 5.5 (-84).

South section: Annan 7 Canonbie 0; Eaglesfield 5 Eastriggs 2; Gretna 2 Dumfries 5; Crichton 7 St Mungo 0.

Note: St Mungo 0 Gretna 7 is the result of the catch up which was not played on the Wednesday, June 17.

League table to date: Annan 46 (+86), Gretna 39 (+41), Dumfries 36.5 (+47), Eastriggs 19 (-26), Crichton 16 (+10), Canonbie 14 (-47), Eaglesfield 13.5 (-11): St Mungo 5 (-100).

The semi-finals and final were held on Wednesday, July 1 between the highest runner up Gretna v south section Annan; and north section Annan v central Section Lockerbie at Gretna Bowling Club. The results will be reported in the next issue of the Standard.

DBA rinks league: The fourth round for the Rinks League, sponsored by Dumfries and Galloway Standard, for the Standard Trophy on Thursday, June 25 with the following results:

Dumfries 8 Lockerbie 4; Thornhill 8 Kirkconnel 4; Annan 9 Maxwelltown 3; Sanquhar 0 Marchmount 12.

League table: Marchmount 40 (+79), Dumfries 29 (+22), Annan 25 (-4), Lockerbie 24 (-1), Kirkconnel 20 (+1), Thornhill 20 (-20), Sanquhar 19 (-23), Maxwelltown 15 (-54).

DBA Triples League: The fourth round of the triples league for the Cochrane Shield on Thursday, June 25 with the following results:

Eaglesfield 10 Gretna 4; Crichton 2 Eastriggs12.

League table: Eastriggs 30 (+45); Gretna 26 (+2), Crichton 22(+16), Eaglesfield 20 (-63).

DBA Reserve League: The fourth round for the reserve Rinks League was played on Thursday, June 25 with the following results:

Marchmount 5 Dumfries 7; Lockerbie 10 Maxwelltown 2; Bye Annan.

League table: Lockerbie 29 (+46), Dumfries 20 (+5), Marchmount 14 (-13), Annan 16 (-2), Maxwelltown 12 (-36). The fifth round is on Thursday, July 2.

DBA County Junior Singles: The County Junior Singles were held at Lockerbie on Saturday, June 27 with the following result.

First round: Gretna 7 Lockerbie 21.

Semi-finals: Lockerbie 21 Annan 8; Eaglesfield 0 Dumfries 21.

Lockerbie (Richard Linton) will play Dumfries (Martyn Rice) in the DBA finals on Sunday, August 23 at Sanquhar.

DBA County Fours: The County Fours were held at Marchmount on Sunday, June 28 with the following result. First Round: Lockerbie 15 Maxwelltown 7; Gretna 16 Crichton 10.

Second round: Lockerbie 12 Gretna 6; Marchmount 9 Lochmaben 18; Dumfries 13 Thornhill 15; Beechgrove 9 Annan 15.

Semi-finals: Lockerbie 14 Lochmaben 12; Thornhill 14 Annan 3.

The winners Lockerbie (Rae Graham, Richard Thomson, Maxwell Nutt, Doug White) and Thornhill (Trevor Black, Willie Lenzie, Alex Wylie, Bob McQuat) go forward into the DBA finals.

DBA Top Ten: The second round of Dumfriesshire Bowling Association Top Ten was held on Monday, June 29 when the results were as follows:

Gretna 0 Marchmount 8; Sanquhar 2 Annan 6; Thornhill 2 Dumfries 6; Lockerbie 8 Beechgrove 0. The semi finals will be held on Monday, July 6.

SYBA: The Scottish Young Bowler Association held their triples contest at the Crichton on Saturday, June 27.

Only four clubs were represented, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie, Marchmount, and Sanquhar to take part in a round robin format.

In the final the winners were (Sanquhar) Declan Farrow, J Kerr, B Lawrie; runners up (Eaglesfield) Amy Anderson, Alice Williams, Darren Bell.

David McPherson expressed his thanks to Crichton Bowling Club for their hospitality.

Gretna Singles: (Graham Kirkpatrick), Marchmount Pairs: (Greg Corbett, McAulay McQueen) and Sanquhar Triples: (Declan Farrow, J Kerr, B Lawrie), go into the finals, at Northfield, Ayr on Sunday, August 15.

The Inter County Fours will take place at Stranraer on Sunday, August 23 and the team of 18 players will be announced in a later addition of the Standard.

Open tournaments

Annan: The results of the mixed American triples sponsored by The Shed, Annan were: 1 Kevin Murray, Megan Carruthers (Annan), Gary Robertson (L/bie); 2 Willie Adam, Jim Harkness, Agnes Dorman (Annan); 3 Graham Harkness, Geoff Murray, Betty Lindsay (Annan); 4 Brian Jarvis, Robert & Barbara Hyslop (St Mungo). The president Bill Tinning presented the prizes.

Maxwelltown: The Cochrane Trophy for the mixed triples was won by Jane Telfer, Ian Donaldson, Eric Muirhead (Max). Runners-up were Christine Tennant, Ralph Richardson, Keith Shuttleworth (N/Abbey). Ray Gall the president presented the prizes.

Spalding:The results of the open triples sponsored by Creative Station, Web & Graphic Designs and Management Advisory Services: Winners Steven Johnstone, George Brown, Tom Aitken (Kbt); runners up David Kiltie, Gordon Cochrane, Tom Rogerson (G/House). The semi- finalists were Arthur McFegan, Alex Harvey, Jim Findlay (Spalding) and Bob Patterson, John and Yvonne Hiddleson (Sanq). The lady president Elizabeth Peacock presented the prizes.

Marchmount: Triples sponsored by Walter Halliday for the Halliday trophy. The winners were Ian Kerr, Bill Dawson, Hazel Edgar; the runners up were Jim Lockerbie, Irvine Laurie, Thelma Shannon. The semi-finalists were Jim Jardine, Hugh Halliday, Lindsay McCreadie and Brian Scott, Ian Caig, Margaret Marchbank. All the prizes winners were from the home club. The past president Jim Kerr together with the sponsor Walter Halliday made the presentations.

Gretna: The American triples were cancelled due to weather condition.

St Mungo:The ladies American triples for the Taylor Shield: 1 June Porter, Margaret Watson, Sheila Armstrong, (B/Grove); 2 Mary Starkey, Alice Jardine, Ella Ramsden (L/bie); 3 Sheena Kirkpatrick, Sheila Woodhouse, Betty Lindsay (Annan). The presentation was made by Grace Taylor who donated the trophy.

Lockerbie: The ladies triples for the Ingrid Hayes Memorial Trophy, sponsored by Hotter Comfort Concept were won by Katy Jardine, Doreen Beck, Betty Kerr (M/mount) and Kate Peacock, Mary Armstrong, Margaret Gillies were runners up. The semi-finalists were Liz Johnstone, Moira Dalziel, Sheila Warrick (L/bie) and Greta Howieson, Kate McShane, Evelyn Patterson (Dfs). Jack McCartney the president together with Caroline Johnstone, sponsor presented the prizes.

Beechgrove: ladies American triples: 1 Moira Irving, Margaret Robison, Mabel McDonald (L/maben); 2 Morag Rae, Sheila Wilson (B/grove), Irene Hastings L/maben). Presentation of the prizes was made by Betty McInnes.

Ladies

SSWBA County triples: The first round was held at Lochmaben on Tuesday, June 16 continuing on Tuesday, June 23. The clubs that qualified to go through to the county finals are: Maxwelltown: (Maureen Jackson, June Telfer, Allison Fair) v Lochmaben (Hazel Sloan, Christine Vidler, Anne Gordon) on Monday, August 18.

SSWBA County fours: The County Fours started on Friday, June 26 and continues today. The results will be reported in a later issue of the Standard.

SSWBA League: The District League finals will be held on Monday, June 29 at Gretna Bowling Club.

Semi-final: A Section: Lochmaben 6 Castle Douglas 2:

Final: Dumfries won by 6 pts (Irene Brown, Muriel Armstrong, Kathy Moffat);(Maureen Love, Jan Oliver, Anne Motroni); (Valerie Gordon, Irene Shaw, Evelyn Patterson): Runners-up: Lochmaben 2 pts (Hazel Sloan, Christine Vidler, Neta Robson); (Anne Gordon, Irene Hastings, Betty Purcell); Maureen Gracie, Debbie Patterson, Jean Dodd): The presentation was made by the SSWBA president June Dinnell.

Stewartry

The Stewartry Bowling Association held the final of the Top Ten, sponsored by Trophy Shop, Dumfries on Friday, June 26 at New Abbey between Kirkcudbright v New Abbey. The results are as follows:
