Golf: Scott wins Scottish schools title

DUMFRIES Academy’s Scott Gibson drove to success in the Scottish Schools tournament at Carnoustie.

He became the Scottish Schoolboys Champion with an impressive score of 64. Scott received his trophy from leading Scottish golfer and former British Open Champion Paul Lawrie.

Two teams from the region took part in the competition which was played over 36 holes on the Burnside and Buddon courses.

The boys’ team of Scott Gibson (Dumfries Academy), Scott Wightman (Annan Academy), and Liam Johnstone (St Joseph’s College) came a credible second in the team event. The girls’ team of Jordana Graham (Dalbeattie High), Katie McCracken (Annan Academy), Rachel Walker (Dumfries High), and Vicky Wright (Stranraer Academy) also took part in the golfing event at Carnoustie.
