Hutton reacquaints himself with goal at Palmerston

QUEENS’ new goalkeeper David Hutton is no stranger to the goal-net at Palmerston Park – on his last visit with former club Clyde he had to pick the ball out of it seven times.

The 24-year-old was reacquainting himself with the home goalmouth before signing a two-year contract on Monday.

And he insisted they’ll be no repeats of that performance in April when an exceptional Queen of the South side destroyed down-and-out Clyde, 7-1.

He joked: “It was obviously a very bad result for us at the time but Queens were really good.

“Gordon Chisholm spoke to me after the game and asked if I would be interested in coming here.

“So I knew then that I definitely wanted to come as it’s a really big club.”

Hutton was with Clyde for three seasons and played nearly 100 games which included a player of the season award for 2007/08.

“I loved it at Clyde, they gave me my chance in the game, but I’m ready to move on and this is the right club for me,” he said.

Gordon Chisholm recently signed 31-year-old experienced French keeper Ludovic Roy who will likely be the first choice for between the sticks.

Battle

But Hutton is fully prepared to do battle for the number one jersey.

He said: “Ludo is a good professional but I’ll have to try and muscle my way in and try my hardest to get the number one jersey.

“My aim is to be number one here and that’s healthy for the club to have two keepers fighting for the jersey.

“But I’m here to get it and I’ll be trying my hardest.”

After welcoming Hutton to the club, club Chairman Davie Rae said one more signing can be expected at the club.

He said it would likely be a striker with manager Gordon Chisholm having his eye on one, as yet, unnamed player.
