Queens defeat St Johnstone by the skin of the teeth

Queen of the South

Queens 3 - 2 St Johnstone

TEETERING on the brink of relegation Queens headed to McDiarmid Park on Saturday to face St Johnstone.

A win by the Doonhamers was desperately needed if they were to remain in the Third Division.

Stephen Dobbie delivered his first of two goals with a low-angle shot having received the ball from the possessive Sean O’Connor.

Dobbie scored his second and final goal of the match minutes after half time giving Queens a comfortable league.

But Saints managed to claw back two late points with a burst of renewed energy and tactics with Derek Holmes grabbing the team’s first point with a free header.

Chris Millar then tied the scoreboard with a deflected shot.

Injury time dragged on with no indication of either side going to take any points until Stewart Kean managed to out manoeuvre Alan Main and score the third and winning goal for Queens.
