QUEENS gaffer Gordon Chisholm believes this Sunday’s tussle with St Johnstone has all the makings of a great match.
His side heads to Perth to take on the league leaders, knowing that a win against them would rid them of any chance of finishing bottom.
But St Johnstone have their own incentive for taking the three points – they could win the league title.
All three previous meetings between the sides this season have ended in draws, with the last being a 3-3 thriller at Palmerston in February.
And with this final battle of the season between the two sides being shown on digital TV channel Alba, Chisholm is anticipating a real spectacle on Sunday.
Speaking to the Standard, Chisholm said: “There’s a lot to play for on Sunday.
“If they win, they could be crowned champions and we’ve got to look after ourselves.
“It’s should be a very exciting game.
“The matches against them have all been very close and very good games, and our confidence will be sky-high after last weekend’s win.
“And there’s the added incentive that it will be going out live on TV. It all has the recipe for a great game.”
After their 2-0 win over Partick Thistle last weekend, another win for Queens would take them beyond reach of bottom Clyde.
But despite the prospect of avoiding relegation on Sunday, Chisholm wants to look up the table instead of down.
He said: “Obviously it’s important to get ourselves out of the relegation fight, but I’m really looking for us to get up to the top half of the table.
“I was delighted with the win on Saturday.
“The boys did well, we kept a clean sheet and scored some good goals.
“The only thing is that we could have scored more, but it was a good result.”
During the match at Partick, the Doonhamers suffered a triple injury blow with Sean O’Connor, Martyn Lancaster and Jim Thomson all going off injured.
Chisholm told the Standard that all three are receiving treatment with Lancaster spending time with a specialist.
The towering trio all remain doubtful for Sunday’s big game.
