Chisholm's on a rescue mission for Queens

GORDON Chisholm will take his troops into battle against Partick Thistle tomorrow – in the first of five games to rescue their season.

Just 15 points remain in the league as Queen of the South look to get themselves away, once and for all, from any kind of relegation dog fight.

They currently sit in eighth place on 37 points – four ahead of Airdrie and six ahead of bottom-placed Clyde.

Potential

A defeat tomorrow has the potential to blow things wide open at the bottom of the First Division so Chisholm knows victory is a must.

He said: "It’s no good feeling sorry for ourselves, we need to roll up our sleeves instead of lying down to the opposition.

"In recent weeks we’ve been our own worst enemy and created our own problems.

"We’ve been creating chances and scoring some good goals but, by the same token, we’ve conceded a lot of silly ones as well.

"We’ve now been sucked into the mix at the bottom so it’s up to ourselves to get out of it.

"We’ve only five matches left and they’ll all be cup finals as far as I’m concerned."

Speaking on the Queens official website, the gaffer admits tomorrow will be a big challenge against a Thistle side pushing for promotion.

But on their day Queens are a match for anyone in the First Division and Chisholm is hoping to see his boys bounce back from last week’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Ross County.

He said: "They’ll be after every point they can get as they’re the only side really pushing St Johnstone in the promotion stakes.

"It’s going to be hard for us but they’re all hard in this league. Anyone can beat anyone and just look at how many draws they’ve been.

"However, St Johnstone sit top and they haven’t managed to beat us in three outings to date.

"Again, all three have been draws so we know we can compete with the top teams."

Meanwhile, Queens have dropped their interest in young striker Jamie Longworth of junior club Kilbirnie Ladeside.

The player was thought to be signing a pre-contract with the club but it has been confirmed he won’t be at Palmerston in the summer
