New man in Queens centre

QUEENS have added another player to their squad as the club looks to use the transfer window to help transform the team’s poor league form.

The Doonhamers have landed centre-half Martyn Lancaster until the end of the season.

The English defender had been plying his trade in America with the Atlanta Silverbacks.

The 28-year-old made his first appearance for the club on Saturday when they lost 4-2 to Falkirk in the Homecoming Scottish Cup.

Although Saturday’s match was the first time Wigan-born Lancaster has played north of the border, he has previously enjoyed a spell at Chester before departing for the states.

Lancaster’s former club, the Atlanta Silverbacks took the decision in November to take a year off from competing due to the financial climate.

And he decided to make the move back to Britain until the end of the season in search of first team football.

Chairman Davie Rae said: “He played well for us on Saturday.

“He’s a big strong lad, and I’d like to think he’ll strengthen up the defence.

“We have been leaking goals recently, especially later on in games, and now that we’re out of the cup, and concentrating on the league, a good defence is important.”
