Andy makes a meal of things

AFTER nine months of cancellations and rearranged dates, Queens’ hero Andy Aitken will finally be rewarded for his loyal service with a testimonial dinner next weekend.

The event, which was first set to take place back in April last year, will be held next Saturday in the Cairndale Hotel in Dumfries.

The dinner had to be rescheduled on numerous occasions because dates chosen clashed with the club’s run in the Scottish Cup last season.

Aitken said: “The night has been re-arranged and re-arranged.

“And it’s been a bit of a nightmare sorting out the right night to have it.

“But I’m really looking forward to it now.

“I’m lucky to be awarded the testimonial, and it shows how good a team Queens are that they can keep their players so long.”

But the Dumfries man certainly wasn’t complaining, with the chance to play in the final being a dream come true.

He added: “Playing in the cup final has to be the highlight of my career.

“As a boy, you dream about taking on Rangers or Celtic in the final, and it was very special being involved with that.

“Especially as a local lad.”
