Must win games for Queens

Chairman Davie Rae hopes Jim Thomsons 350th appearance

QUEEN of the South chairman Davie Rae strongly believes this is the weekend when his side will get back to winning ways.

Queens take on Dundee at Palmerston on Saturday, and the Doonhamers’ chairman is calling on the fans to get right behind the team.

Speaking to the Standard, Rae said: “We really need the fans to get behind the team this weekend. We badly need a win.

“The players need a win, the fans need a win, and the chairman needs a win!”

And Rae knows just how important Queens’ final game of 2008 will be.

Dundee are currently in the precarious relegation play-off spot, but are only a single point behind Queens and have a game in hand over them.

Rae said: “Saturday really is a must-win game for us.

“We really don’t want to get involved in a relegation battle.

“But I really think that Saturday will be the game that turns things around for us.

“It’s not that long ago that we thrashed Livingston.

“We’ve had some horrendous luck with injuries, and people out with the flu.

“But I feel this weekend we can really do the business.”

And Queens’ captain Jim Thomson will be wanting to celebrate a win with what will be his 350th appearance for the club.

Rae said: “Jim’s been a great servant and asset for the club.

“And 350 appearances is an impressive milestone.

“He really deserves it.”

Despite Rae’s optimism about Saturday’s game, on paper things don’t look good.

Although Dundee’s league form hasn’t been fantastic either this season, their last victory was against the Doonhamers when they visited Dens Park last month.

But Queens’ chairman clearly feels his side is due a win, and is confident Saturday will be the day to get back on track.

And with Queens’ looking to get back on winning form, they will have had a confidence boost following a bounce game on Tuesday.

Queens’ took on a Hamilton Ackies side on Tuesday afternoon and thrashed them 7-1. Neil Scally played for an hour during the match, as he continues on his road to recovery.
