Queens trounced by Morton

Queen of the South went down in a shock defeat to Morton on Saturday when the Doonhamers were thrashed 4-1.

Despite a good start in bad weather Weatherston and Burns missed two possible opportunities to score within the opening minutes.

The Greenock side quickly took advantage of the disorganised Queen side with Weatherson scoring twice in quick succession.

A long-shot from Morton’s Jenkins put the Greenock side up 3-0 just before half time leaving the Palmerston side in shock.

Revitalised after the half-time break Queens came back fighting with O’Connor scoring in the 49^th minute.

The assault on the rival’s goal began in earnest yet more goals failed to materialise for the home side.

Eventually Morton sides Greacen sealed the Doonhamers fate with a fourth and final goal in the 74^th minute thanks to a header.

The surprise defeat to Queens has knocked the Doonhamers to fourth position in the First Division.
