Boss Chisholm extends contract with Queens

THE UEFA Cup adventure might have ended at the first hurdle but Queens received a massive boost this week when Gordon Chisholm signed a new contract.

The highly-rated boss put pen to paper on Wednesday and pledged his future to the club until May 2010 – extending his current deal by an extra 12 months.

Assistant manager Kenny Brannigan has joined Chisholm in signing a new deal for the same duration.

Queens chairman Davie Rae welcomed the news and said he was delighted a contract extension had been agreed.

“It’s crucial that Gordon has signed this contract because Gordon Chisholm and his backroom staff have taken this club to another level,” he said.

“After what we’ve achieved last season with the cup run we are now known in football not just in Scotland but across the UK and even across Europe.

“Gordon signing the contract shows we are really trying to build something at this club and the crowds have got a lot bigger at Palmerston this season on the back of what we’ve achieved.”

And Rae also told the Standard he had a special message for the supporters who travelled to Denmark.

“The fans who came to the game were superb and I think it has to be said they’re a credit to the Scottish Football League and to Scottish football,” he said.

Chisholm said Queens’ ambition and the potential was one of the major factors for him signing a new deal.

He said: “The backing that I’ve had from the chairman and the board has been fantastic and I think the club is really going in the right direction.

“We’ve been to a Scottish Cup final, got into Europe and let’s just say I want to finish higher than fourth in the league this season and see where that takes us.”
