Queens in UEFA cup action against Nordsjaelland

QUEENS were last night aiming to make history by securing a place in the first round of the UEFA Cup.

The Doonhamers played Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland, in a game where they were bidding to overturn a 2-1 deficit and become the first Scottish team to progress in Europe after losing the first leg at home.

Although Gordon Chisholm’s men played the match hundreds of miles from Dumfries, the travelling support did their best to give it the feel of a home game, with more than 800 travelling fans making the trip to Scandinavia for Queen’s first ever European away tie.

A goal in the second minute of the first leg gave FC Nordsjaelland a dream start at Airdrie’s Excelsior stadium two weeks ago, but a Sean O’Connor header at least gave the Doonhamers a fighting chance of pulling off a shock comeback in last night’s clash.
