Queens Manager heads to Denmark

QUEENS manager Gordon Chisholm is heading to Denmark today to watch UEFA Cup opponents Nordsjaelland.

He will see the Superligaen side, managed by former Celtic player Morten Wieghorst, in action against Odense tonight.

And assistant manager Kenny Brannigan will take in their home clash with league leaders Randers on Sunday.

The Doonhamers were pitted against the relatively unknown Danish outfit at the UEFA Cup draw on Friday.

Queens travel for the first leg, which will be played on Thursday, August 14, with the return at Airdrie on Tuesday, August 26.

Chisholm told the club website: “I would have preferred the first leg away but it wasn't to be.

“It will be an adventure for us all. It will be difficult but not unwinnable. We’ll prepare professionally and do our research.

“As I say, it won’t be easy but we're confident and we’ll be give it our best shot.”

Nordsjaelland, from Farum in the northeast of the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark, qualified for the Uefa Cup with a Fair Play place.

The club finished in ninth place in the Danish Superligaen last season and are currently sitting third from bottom of the table after two games.

They drew 1-1 with Inverness Caley Thistle in a pre-season friendly last month.

Chisholm said: “It's not often you get the chance to play in Europe so we are going to make the most of it and enjoy it.

“The younger boys at the club can only benefit, it’s a different type of football and so it will be a great experience. And I am going to enjoy it as I enjoyed the Scottish Cup final last season.”
