Keeper signed
QUEEN of the South have signed former Clyde and Hamilton goalkeeper Bryn Halliwell as they continue their preparations for the new season.
Queens boss Gordon Chisholm had been left without a shot stopper after Jamie MacDonald’s loan deal from hearts ended and Stephen Grindlay signed for Ayr United.
The club were linked with a number of new keepers, such as former St Johnstone man Kevin Cuthbert and former Aberdeen goalie Ryan Esson.
However he has opted to make Halliwell - who won the first division with Hamilton last season - his number one for the coming season.
The Englishman wasn’t the only new arrival at Palmerston last week, with Jamie Adams once again joining the club on loan from SPL side Kilmarnock.
The midfielder has had two previous spells on loan at Queens, but last season’s was cut short after just one game due to injury.
His first spell with the club back in 2007 was more successful as he scored three goals and his deal this time around lasts until the end of the year.
Queens fans got their first chance to see Halliwell and Adams - along with fellow new boys Stewart Kean and Craig Barr - in action in their first friendly of the summer at SFL newcomers Annan Athletic on Saturday.
Despite the first half ending goalless, Queens were always in control and hammered five past their opponents after the break, with Kean, Bob Harris and Stevie Tosh all getting on the scoresheet while Stephen Dobbie bagged a brace.
On Tuesday Chisholm’s side travelled to Somerset Park and beat Ayr United 3-0 in a friendly, with Kean, Dobbie and Paul Burns all scoring.
They have two more friendlies this week, with Owen Coyle bringing his Burnley side to Palmerston on Saturday and Queens travelling to Hampden to take on Queen’s Park on Tuesday night.
