Gretna target Peebles victory

GRETNA are looking to get their league campaign back on track this weekend with a win over Peebles.

Stuart Rome’s side have stumbled to two defeats in their last two league encounters and are languishing seven points adrift from the top spot.

Rome sees picking up three points tomorrow as vital for Gretna’s ailing promotion hunt.

He told the Standard: “It’s important we get the win. Outwith the top five teams, we need to be getting the full points from games.

“That’s no disrespect to the opposition.

“But we won’t be taking anything for granted. “We don’t want to end up with egg on our face, and have to approach the game in the right way.”

Gretna take on Peebles twice in a fortnight, in a double header that could get the Raydale outfit side back in contention if they take maximum points.

But Rome isn’t sure what to expect from the eighth-placed side that lost 13-0 to Stirling University in the South Challenge Cup last weekend.

He said: “We really don’t know what to make of Peebles that the moment. They were hammered last weekend and have had a couple of results like that this season.

“They blow hot and cold and we’ll just have to see what kind of reaction they give to that big defeat.”

Gretna 2008 marched to victory over Creetown in that competition last weekend, earning a well deserved 2-0 win.

Gretna take on Peebles tomorrow at Raydale Park, kick-off 2.30pm.
