AN SPL team looks set to make a sensational swoop for a Gretna 2008 player.
Gretna’s demolition job on Ormiston last weekend was so impressive that a team from the top of Scottish football has expressed an interest in one of their players.
And while Gretna boss Stuart Rome would be disappointed to see anyone leave Raydale, he admitted it would be good for the club.
Rome said: “It’s been a really great season all round.
“The lads have done so well, and at the weekend they really were phenomenal.
“There’s even been Premier League interest for one of the lads.
“The club asked about them and are looking for us to have a game to let them have another look at him.
“It’s good for the lads to get noticed, and it’s what our club is all about.”
Although Rome would not disclose the player, or the team involved, the hat-trick scored by 17-year-old Adam McMath will not have gone unnoticed by any scouts sniffing around.
Saturday’s 4-0 thumping of Ormiston ended a glorious opening season for Gretna.
Opting to play a lot of his younger players, Rome knows the future is bright.
“It bodes well for the future - we played five 17-year-olds and they were absolutely fantastic.
“I know they have potential, and they really showed it on Saturday.”
After Saturday’s match, Rome signed up all but two of his squad for next season, with the remaining deals to be completed next week.
