‘Massive’ game for Gretna

GRETNA boss Stuart Rome is calling for his players to regroup after a dismal fortnight of results which have seen his side pick up only one point in two games.

Going into April, Rome’s men looked set to dominate the division after winning all four of their matches in March.

But with a draw and a defeat in their last two games, Gretna have left themselves with it all to do between now and the end of the season.

They take on Leith Athletic at the Everholm Stadium this weekend, and Rome knows how important the three points will be.

Speaking to the Standard, Rome said: “Saturday is a massive game for us.

“We really need to get back on track this weekend.

“It’s still in our hands, but it is looking a tall order.

“We need to regroup and not put to bed our chances of promotion.”

While Gretna host Athletic, fellow title-challengers Tynecastle and Civil Service Strollers will be taking each other on.

But Rome is more concerned about another side quietly creeping up the table.

Rome said: “I think the real challenge for promotion is between ourselves, Tynecastle and Stirling University.

“They’re a good side who have been playing well and are a real threat.

“We’ve still to play them home and away, so it could come down to those games.”
