Jolly big shock for league leaders

IN THE first round of the Fosters Sunday Trophy the three matches that went ahead saw all three local sides go out of the competition.

At Jocks Loaning, Hole i’ the Wa’ gave the visitors a game in the first half. However, after losing the first goal, it was always going to be an uphill struggle with the visitors finding the net on a further two occasions to record a three-goal victory.

Up at Beattock, Moffat Thistle 2010 also had a difficult tie, losing 3- 0 with the visitors scoring twice in the first half.

In the second half, the home side started to chase the game and were hit on the counter 10 minutes from time to lose a third.

Beechwood Albion defeated Black Bull Rovers by four goals to two. The visitors went one up, an advantage they held until the half hour mark. By the half time whistle matters were all square.

In the second half the home side took the advantage and after that the Bull found life tough with the home side running out comfortable victors in the end.

Bruce Arms’ tie was called off and is scheduled for next week.

On the home front in the Premiership, Scaur lost their unbeaten record when bottom side Jolly Harvester recorded a 4-2 victory. The home side caught the visitors cold and went one up through Joe Winson. That advantage was short lived with Aly Smith replying for the visitors.

On the 20 minute mark Dale Osbourne put the Jolly back in front. The home side added a third when Scott Alexander hit an unstoppable shot to give his side a 3-1 advantage at half time.

In the second half Scaur lifted the tempo but failed to break down the home side’s defence until midway through the half when Alex Boyle reduced the deficit to one but again Jolly hit back and a second from Dale Osbourne secured the Jolly’s first league victory of the season.

Normandy Star continue to keep tabs on the top two when they defeated Palmerston Colts by seven goals to three. Star held a four goal advantage at half time with goals coming from Mark Dillion, Joe Jardine, Ian Quinn and Paul McCann.

After the restart, the Colts reduced the deficit to two when Darren Kirkpatrick and Arron Callendar scored. This seemed to stir the home side and they restored their composure and hit three with Ian Quinn grabbing a brace to complete his hat- trick, followed by a long range shot from Mark Dillion to complete his brace and take his side’s tally to seven with Neil Williamson heading home a late consolation.

In the first division, league leaders Kings Arms had a comfortable four- goal victory over bottom placed side Dumfries Athletic with Duncan Smith and Laurie Maxwell scoring in the first half.

The second half saw the home side wrap up the points with two goals in two minutes. Alan Maxwell and Duncan Smith completed his brace to secure the points.

Annan Town moved into second spot when they defeated Ruthwell Rovers by three goals to nil. A Paul Bradley goal separated the sides at half time.

Twenty minutes into the second half they doubled their advantage when Keith Richardson scored with the points being secured when Darren’s shot took a deflection to make it three.

Broons and Nithside Colts looked like sharing the points. However, the match was abandoned 10 minutes from time when a player received an injury. Awaiting the ambulance arriving, the referee was unable to continue due to failing light.
