IN THE only game to survive the weather last weekend, Upper Annandale travelled to Lauder for their second round tie in the South of Scotland Cup. It was a worthwhile journey as they won 3-1.
Lauder were a good side who never gave up but Uppers were always in control on a wet pitch. As more rain fell, there was even a danger of abandonment at one stage.
Uppers went ahead after 20 minutes when Peter Pagan robbed a defender and fired in a good shot which the keeper could only parry and Ryan Johnstone knocked the rebound home.
Ten minutes before the break, Michael Swan beat two defenders and crossed for Neil Roddick to tap in a second.
As stated, though, Lauder were no mugs and pulled one back on the hour. With 20 minutes left, Kevin Alston sent a long high ball forward, Mark Leighfield outjumped the defence, played a one-two with a puddle and banged in the clincher.
Best for Uppers were Peter Pagan and Kevin Alston although the excellent hospitality of Lauder ran them close.
Result: South of Scotland Cup Round 2: Lauder 1, Upper Annandale 3.
