Football Fixtures Drowned By Downpour

THE WEEKEND-LONG deluge deprived football-lovers of their beloved sport, with almost every game being cancelled.

Everything from professional First Division clashes to amateur football battles were put on hold over the weekend.

Palmerston was pummelled by the downpour, and the anticipated battle between league leading Queens and in-form Dunfermline was called off only hours before kick-off.

It was a chance for the Doonhamers to claim the top spot for themselves as joint-leaders Dundee were on an Alba Cup final outing.

But it wasn’t just Palmerston that suffered the elements.

Only a single Dumfries Amateurs match went ahead, and no Sunday Amateurs games survived.

Incredibly, Raydale was playable, and saw Gretna despatch of Kirkcudbright side St Cuthberts 3-0.

Thankfully, Annan were playing away from home and their match went ahead.

But their tussle with Albion Rovers ended goal-less.

The Queens v Dunfermline tie has been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 1.
