Annan Captain Looks For Win Over Wee Rovers
ANNAN captain Kevin Neilson fears his side’s season could be ruined if they don’t start winning.
The Galabankies have lost their last two matches, and only a point now separates them from their current sixth spot and second bottom.
And Neilson is determined not to let his team drop to those depths.
He said: “It’s been a really disappointing couple of weeks. The next couple of games are really important for us. We’re on the same points as three other clubs and it could turn into a really disappointing season if we don’t keep up with the teams around us.”
The Annan captain reckons his side are the fittest in the third division and doesn’t think effort has been an issue.
But he does think he knows what the problem has been.
“We’ve been lacking a bit of cutting edge,” Neilson said. “We haven’t been punishing teams when we get the chance, and in turn we’re getting punished.
“This division isn’t really about playing pretty football, it’s about hard work and taking your chances. Our workrate has been good, but it’s vital that we put the ball in the net. There’s plenty of confidence, but the finishing has been lacking.”
Annan make the trip to face a misfiring Albion Rovers, who have failed to win their last three matches.
And Neilson wants to pile more misery on the Wee Rovers tomorrow.
“I’m really hoping we can turn it around tomorrow. It’s a big game for us, and if we’re going to have a good season we need to get back to winning.”
Despite Albion’s poor form, they still sit inside the promotion play-off zone.
