A COMFORTABLE win for Lochmaben over Terregles Athletic saw them take over at the top of the Metrik Office Supplies League at the weekend.
Despite Terregles taking an early lead through Terry Jardine after a mix-up in the home defence, Lochmaben found their feet and won 5-2.
By half-time they were 3-1 up.
A deflected free kick by Alan Maxwell saw them level.
Steffan Ramsey put them in front at the back post and a good movement down the right ended with Maxwell heading in his second and Lochmaben’s third.
A Robert Chambers goal at a corner brought Terregles back into the game but their hopes were snuffed out when Ramsey broke clear to score his own second, in off the post, followed by a fifth for Colin Robson who got on the end of Jamie Anderson’s cut-back.
Alan Maxwell and Cameron Thorburn shone for Lochmaben while Neil Little had a solid match for Terregles.
FC Dynamo Star looked set for their first league win when they took a 3-1 lead over YMCA with an hour gone but, in the end, they had to settle for a three-all draw.
Although disappointed, they will be pleased to have their first point.
This was an excellent game and, overall, a fair result.
A penalty by Gordon Tennant gave Star the lead but YM were level by the interval when Karl Schneider ran on to a through ball and tucked it away.
The start of the second half saw Star in control and they showed this with a couple of goals, one from Greg Reid, the second from Russell Milligan.
That shook YM, however, and they laid siege to their opponents’ goal for the last quarter.
Terry Trainor pulled one back and then Nicky Broadfoot equalised with about five minutes to go.
Two young sides in Morton Thistle and Kirkconnel met at Thornhill where the home side had just that bit more cutting edge up front and run out 4-0 winners.
The only goal in the first half came from a rasping low drive from 25 yards by Martin Rush.
The next two both came from Michael Devlin, both similar volleys back across the keeper into the far corner.
With a minute left, Billy Gracie finished things off with a back heeler from close in.
Kirkconnel tried hard throughout but Morton were in control at the back.
