ANNAN Chairman Henry McClelland is setting his sights on second division football via the play-off spot following last season’s success.
His side finished up a very credible seventh – six points off the coveted play-off cut-off place of fourth.
And following last season’s strong showing, McClelland wants even more.
He said: “We’re continuing to add to the squad and we’re looking to make a serious challenge for the playoffs.
“It’s got to be our target, especially after last season.
“Last year’s expectation was finishing at least ninth, but that was just for the first season.
“We’re definitely setting our sights higher and we’ve got to be competing for a playoff place, especially considering how well we did last season.”
And McClelland’s bid has been bolstered with the signing of another attack-minded young player.
Last week, the Standard reported that Dalbeattie Star winger and East League player of the season Lewis Sloan was set to sign for Annan.
And while the finer points of that deal are still being ironed out, 20-year-old David Cox has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
Cox spent nearly six years on the books at Kilmarnock before being released by the club, and spending last season with Montrose.
The versatile attacker can play up front or on either wing, and McLelland believes he’s a good addition to the team.
He said: “We’re really delighted to get hold of him. He’s got two good feet, great pace, and knows where the goal is too.
“Where he plays is obviously down to Harry, but he certainly brings some good attacking options.”
It is expected that Lewis Sloan will sign for Annan by the end of this week.
