Spoils shared in friendly
IT MAY only have been a friendly – but players in both teams knew they had to impress their managers for very different reasons.
For the Queen of the South lads, it was all about proving to gaffer Gordon Chisholm that they were good enough to get a place in his promotion-challenging squad.
And for the Annan players, they had to show boss Harry Cairney that they were good enough to take the Galabankies out of their recent dip in form.
The friendly between the Dumfriesshire neighbours ended in a 1-1 draw at Palmerston Park on Tuesday night – a result probably down to the determination of both sets of players to impress.
Queens took the lead on 25 minutes when Stewart Kean shot the ball home.
The home side could have taken the lead several times but the Annan defence put up a strong resistance against the First Division leaders.
At the other end, Annan’s Graeme Bell came close after the hour mark when he blasted a shot off the crossbar.
But minutes later it was second time lucky for Bell who tapped the ball in the back of the net inside the Queens penalty box to level the scoring.
