THE Dumfriesshire Bowling Association held the final of the Top Five Singles on Monday.

The winners were Lockerbie who defeated Marchmount 3-0.

The players taking part for Lockerbie were Gary Robertson, Rae Graham, Andrew Lauder, Richard Linton and Neil Shearer, and for Marchmount were Colin Peacock, Steven Lowther, David Fraser, Paul Fraser, and Bobby Jess.

The DBA president Billy Moffat presented the trophy to Bob Dalziel, president of Lockerbie, after which he thanked Kirkconnel Bowling Club for their hospitality and to the ladies for the catering.

National Mixed Pairs: The first stages of the National Mixed Pairs Championships were held at Broughty Bowling Club on Saturday.

Representing Dumfries Bowling Club were Jan Oliver and Martyn Rice in the first round against M Aiken, I Crawford (Melrose).

In a very close encounter the Melrose duo emerged the winners by 14 shots to 13 shots.

New Abbey: Mixed American Triples: 1 Keith Shuttleworth, Jim Clingan, Christine Tennant (N/Abbey); 2 Robert and Mary Bryden, Roy McDermott (N/Abbey); 3 Alex Beggs, Mario Motroni, Evelyn Patterson (Dfs). The president Jean Hawes presented the prizes.

Annan: Open American Triples, sponsored by Farries, Kirk and McVean: 1 Sandy McRobb, Jack Harkness, John Cairnie; 2 Betty Lindsay, Bert Hollis, Graham Harkness; 3 Maxi Bell, Geoff Murray, Elizabeth Callander; 4 Christine Povall, Sylvia Moore, Margaret Johnstone. All the prizes winners were from the home club.

The presentation was made by Alister Scott on behalf of the sponsor together with Jim Moonie.

Eastriggs: Open American Pairs sponsored by the Vivers Family for the Vivers Rosebowl: 1 Jock Wyllie (E/fld), Gary Armstrong (L/bie); 2 Steven Graham (age 12 years), Gary Robertson (L/bie); 3 Andy Nelson, Alan Boyd (Annan); 4 Lee Nesbit (E/riggs), Willie Rice (Dfs). Kenny Richardson presented the prizes on behalf of the family together with vice president DR Johnstone.

Glencairn: Invitation Open Reverse Pairs sponsored by George Hotel, Moniaive. The winners were Callum McIntyre, Len McMillan (G/cairn) and the runners up Bob McQuat, Gib McConnell (T/hill). The semi finalists were Alan Mensdorf (G/cairn), Bob Steele (T/hill) and Robert Robertson, Wattie McTeir (T/hill). The president Campbell McIntyre introduced the sponsor Robert Edgar to present the prizes.

Kirkconnel: Open Singles sponsored by Scottish Coal was won by John Candlish (Coylton) and the runner up Bobby Jess (M/Mount). The semi finalists were John Dunlop (Kcl) and George Wylie (Sanq). The prizes were presented Alan Hiddleston on behalf of the sponsor together with the president John Dunlop.

Auchencairn: Open Triples sponsored by McGaw, Electrical Ltd was won by Gordon Cochrane, David Kiltie (G/house), David Kiltie Jnr (P/Patrick) and the runners up Tom Forteith, Vic Tilson, Kenny Crookshanks (Dfs). The semi finalists were Bob Richardson, Gary Richardson, Will Strong (Colbeck) and Allison McIntyre, Jean Richardson, Myrna Robertson (Dalb). Presentation by President William Malcolmson.

Lockerbie: Gents Pairs for the A S Johnstone Memorial Trophy, sponsored by D S Smith Packaging was won by Trevor Taylor, (Carlisle), Martyn Rice (Dfs) and the runners up were Jim Little, Gary Robertson (L/bie). The semi finalists were Salvatori Panico, Peter Angood (Dfs) and Paul Geddes, Ali Hastie (L/bie). The presentations were made by Miffy Johnstone together with President Bob Dalziel.

Ex Presidents: The Dumfriesshire Ex-Presidents Bowling Association are home at Gretna Bowling Club on Sunday August 29 against Cumbria Vice Presidents, also the ex-presidents are at home against Wigtown Bowl Club on Monday, August 30, at Maxwelltown Bowling Club.

Ladies section

Lochmaben: Pairs sponsored by Annandale Funeral Directors, Lochmaben/Lockerbie was won by Hazel Sloan, Anne Gordon (L/maben) and the runners up were Isobel Fraser, Chrissie McKinlay (E/fld). The semi finalists are Molly Geddes (C.R.), Hazel Edgar (M/mount) and Margaret Glen, Rhona Riddell (L/maben). Presentation of the prizes was made by Caroline Mundell on behalf of the sponsors.

Beechgrove: Pairs was won by Irene Hastings, Maureen Gracie (L/maben) and the runner up were Mary Armstrong, Dorothy Martin (M/mount). The presentations were made by the president Andy Armstrong.

SSWBA

The Scottish Women's Bowling Association qualified for the semi finals on Friday September 3 at West Kilbride and the players that have been selected to take part are as follows:

Stewartry

The Stewartry Bowling Association held their Senior Triples league at Castle Douglas on Monday, August 23, between Section 'A' Auchencairn v Section 'B' New Abbey in wet conditions.

The result was a win for New Abbey by 30 shots to Auchencairn 19 shots.
