THE SCOTTISH Young Bowler Association finals are being held at Northfield on Saturday, August 15.
The players that were taking part were:
Singles: Graeme Kirkpatrick (Gretna).
Pairs: Greg Corbett, McAulay McQueen (Marchmount). Triples: Declan Farrow, Jamie Kerr, Bret Lawrie (Sanq.
It was disappointing that there were no winners at Northfield.
Tournaments
Annan: The open triples for the Alex Thomson Memorial Trophy was cancelled due to weather condition.
Maxwelltown: The gents invitation American triples was cancelled due weather conditions.
Thornhill: The mixed American triples, sponsored by the Buccleuch Estate PLC for the B and Q shield: 1 Alex Wylie, Andrew and Lynn Ross (T/hill); 2 Stewart and Sally Gilmour (C/Douglas), Anne Lenza (T/hill); 3 Edward and Sheena Harkness, Gwen Dempster (T/hill); 4 Bob Steele, Maureen Carson (T/hill), Alan Mensdorf (G/Cairn). Vice President Bob Steele made the presentations.
Lockerbie: The gents pairs for the A.S, Johnstone Memorial Trophy, sponsored by D S Smith Packaging. The winners were Wallace Scott, David Borthwick (B/grove). Runners-up Jimmy Little Jnr (Annan), Brian Robertson (L/bie). Neil Shearer presented the prizes and Miffy present the trophy.
Eastriggs: The open American triples, sponsored by Alan Slater, Car Sales and Cup: 1 Alan Boyd, Bill Tinning, Steven Carruthers (Annan); 2 Raymond Hawke, James Smith, Maureen Kelly (E/riggs); 3 Bernard Jackson, Jackie Burnett, (E/riggs), Davy Lowther (E/fld); 4 Paul Campbell, Kevin Dobson, B Hewer, (Carlisle). Presentations were made by Raymond Hetherington sponsor.
Eaglesfield: The mixed pairs scheduled for Sunday August 16 have been cancelled due to the lack of entries.
Charities: Dumfries Bowling Club’s president Tom Ross presented a cheque for £250 to member Joe Boyle for his “ Three Wheels Scotland” charity. Joe and friends toured Scotland in three wheeled vehicles raising approximately £13,000. David Hunter, a member of the club, helped to raise money during Dumfries Bowling Club annual tournament week.
DBA County finals
Due to Martyn Rice/Jan Oliver competing in the Scottish Mixed Pairs finals at Ralston Bowling Club on Saturday/Sunday August 22/23 the DBA County finals mixed pairs and the junior singles were held at Maxwelltown Bowling Club on Wednesday, August 19.
Mixed pairs: Rae Graham, Rita Jardine (Lockerbie) v Willie Rice, Jan Oliver (Dfs). Junior singles Richard Linton (Lockerbie) v Martyn Rice (Dumfries). The results will be reported in the next issue of the Standard.
The remaining DBA County finals will be held on Sunday at Sanquhar Bowling Club.
Fours: The Isobel and Jim White Cup: Lockerbie (Rae Graham, Richard Thomson, Maxwell Nutt, Doug White) v Thornhill (Trevor Black, Willie Lenza, Alex Wylie, Robert McQuat).
Senior pairs: The Senior Cup. Eastriggs: (Bernard Jackson, Jack Burnett) v Lochmaben (Roger McGhie, Denis Bell).
Triples: The Border Cars Mazda Cup: Thornhill (John Harkness, John Scott, Joe Black) v Lockerbie (Rae Graham, Willie Linton, Gary Robertson.
Pairs: The Coronation Cup: Eaglesfield (Sandy Kirkpatrick, William Graham) v Maxwelltown (Gary Telfer, Zane Gray).
Gent singles: The McGhie Dairies Cup: Beechgrove (David Borthwick) v Thornhill (Trevor Black).
The Rinks League winners Dumfries received the Dumfries and Galloway Rosebowl. The Reserve League winners were Dumfries for the Reserve League Cup. The Triples League winners were Eastriggs for the Cochrane Shield.
National mixed pairs: On Saturday/Sunday August 22/23 the Scottish National Mixed Pairs is being held at Ralston Bowling Club in which Martyn Rice, Jan Oliver are taking part against A Watson, T Wallace (Blantyre).
Ex-Presidents: The Dumfriesshire Ex-Presidents’ Association ise away to Dalston on Sunday in their annual friendly against Cumbria Ex-Vice presidents.
Ladies section
Marchmount: The triples was won by Isobel Moffat (Max), Mae Donaldson (M/Mount), Anne Motroni (Dfs) and the runners up Greta Howieson, Margaret Cook, Evelyn Patterson (Dfs). Kate Peacock president presented the prizes.
Beechgrove: The pairs was won by Helen Bell, Barbara McBride (L/maben) the runners-up Moira Irving, Anne Gordon (L/maben). The president Betty McInnes presented the prizes.
Thornhill: Pairs for the Morton Shield sponsored by Marchbank, Bakers, Thornhill. Isobel Moffat (Max), Margaret Dempster (T/hill) were the winners, Mary Smyth, Irene Shaw (Dfs). The past secretary Anne Williamson presented the prizes.
Annan: Pairs for the Swalwell Cup, sponsored by Christine Povell, was won by Angie Donaldson, Julie McDowell (Max).The runners up were Morag Rae (B/grove), Elsie Copeland (L/bie). Presentation was made by the sponsor Christine Povell.
New Abbey: American triples: 1 Christine Tennant, Ruby Clingan, Jenny McCulloch (N/Abbey); 2 Rosemary Little (Dalbt) Helen Little, Kate McGarrie (A/cairn); 3 Maureen Feenan, Jean Richardson, Cathy Geddes (Dalbt). Vice president Jean Hawes made the presentations.
SSWBA County finals
The South of Scotland Women’s Bowling Association County Final was held on Monday August 17 at Kirkcudbright Bowling Club. The results were as follows:
10.00 am: Triples: Winners Hazel Sloan, Christine Vidler, Anne Gordon (L/mben) 16.Runners-up Maureen Jackson, Jane Telfer, Allison Fair (Max) 14.
1.30pm: Pairs: Winners Janice Maxwell, Anne Houston (Castle Douglas) 19. Runners-up Sheena Kirkpatrick, Agnes Dorman (Annan) 13:

SSWBA Inter association:Today, the South of Scotland Women’s Association play in the Inter County Association game against Glasgow Bowling Association at St Vincent Bowling Club.
Stewartry
The Dumfriesshire and Stewartry Inter County Cup was presented to Gatehouse President James Cruickshanks by the Inter County Chairman Hamish Sinclair. The Gatehouse teams were: Rink 1 David Kiltie, James Cruickshanks Snr and Jnr, Billy Doak.
Rink 2. Tom Rogers, Jock Wallace, George Baily, Harry McLeod. The highest runners-up for Dumfriesshire is Marchmount Bowling Club.
